So I'm thinking of buying a lens reversing ring for my 50mm 1.8 for macro use. Today I thought I'd hand hold the lens backwards on the camera and see if the results I got would support the purchase. This is the result of about 45 seconds of trying. Noonday sun made the camera settings a little tough as this one is a bit overexposed.

Given the quick and dirty test and the better than expected result I think I'm going to put the reversal ring on my list of things to purchase. Given the proper setup, etc. I think this would be a fine addition for macro work.

Looks like they're ready to roll right off the petal, neat shot and great textures!

Nice macro and beautiful colors. I like the way the stuff is spilling out onto the petals.

Those rings are inexpensive if you get house brand from B&H. Also, you may want to consider a coupler ring to put on your 18-200 and reverse the 50. You'll get super macro, although DOF is extremely limited and light can be an issue.

This is a really good macro! The pink is amazing & you can really see the detail of the inside of the flower!

Great shot, especially considering the conditions! Gotta admit, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a reversal ring! What benefits would this have over just buying a macro lens?

Brad

great macro, stunning colours, the sharpness of the flower stamen is brilliant and I love the colours which work brilliantly with the dark bokeh and border

Just another ordinary shot for a fellow sheep herder eh?

Hey and why buy the RR when you can do this hand held

Great job

Looks like a successful test. With the ring I assume you can change f-stops to get more depth.

I like the brightness and hard light of this shot - great composition and the frame works well.
