common name: prickly lettuce
(I like the Latin name better.)

These plants can grow from one to five feet tall, generally with very little branching except for the flowering portions. The flowers are only up to about 1/2 inch across.

Common throughout Kansas, they can cause poisoning in cattle when too much is consumed.

The flowers look a lot like chicory, except the colour is different. Beautiful picture, I like the diagonal.
