Another snap taken on my walk home from work. This was a night when I kept seeing great opportunities for candid photos which I was either too slow or too timid/careful to catch, including one proverbial "shot that go away."

So, here I offer a crop of the front of a NYC firetruck. Could use some context but unfortunately I had left the camera set to spot metering, so the scene all around the truck was completely washed out.

I don't know about needing context. I think this crop makes for a wonderful image.

Great angle on the truck & I like that you can see the guy boots under the door.

Great strong reds in this shot. the boots are kind of stange as despite the flourescent stripes they almost seem to merge into the background

Possibly could have been straightened a fraction but the fact that the arrow on the truck is pointing in the direction of the slope makes it feel as if this is intentional and actually works well on the shot

Again - you hit that urban nerve with me - I really like big metal things, such as trucks. Nice colors and interesting crop. Great shot.

Love how the door is open revealing the continued stripes that the arrow seems to be pointing at, and even the 4's are leading your eye that way. Awesome! And just seeing the boots is very cool... I muse, is there really someone there or just boots sitting there...

I love this -- you don't see the boots until the last (or at least that's how I took in the shot) at which point the whole thing makes sense.

I wouldn't worry about the context -- it's a quirky candid and is fine the way it is. IMNSHO, you could crop it a little tighter and get rid of the strip of white and the windows at the top. It wouldn't be a square crop, but rules are made to be broken... 8)

I too have difficulty taking candids. Too timid as well. You got some nice exposure on this one.

It's hard to get into the comfort zone isn't it? Of just taking pics of everyone and anyone. I totally understand the "shot that got away" comment. Personally, I would have liked to see the fireman BUT what is cool about this is that you are getting to look at a fireman in a little different way. We don't normally think of BOOTS - we think FIRE HELMET. So this is cool. Nice reds too.
