 Late afternoon sun in the background. Had to do some PSing to recover the flare on the face, but wanted the effect.

Not expecting this one to score high, not exactly what people will be looking for (not seeing the "face" enough for example), but I really liked it.


Post challenge: Wow! blue ribbon! Very happy obviously by the result. I saw that I was going for a good score, but with the great pictures around here, I wasn't expecting blue. I would like to make a mention for my favorite picture in the challenge, which finished 12th, . The mood of this picture is great. And it did receive more 10s than mine.

For those who like to see the before/after, here is the original shot . When I saw the theme of the challenge, I thought I should try to do a picture that not only is lit with natural light but specifically benefits from it. We went out late in the evening to use one of the best time for natural light. After many shots, I wasnt happy with the results. It was only on the way back that I saw the rimlight on the flowers and thought of this shot. Lucks help!

Wow very beautiful shot and judging by the before pic very nice photoshopping as well. You should do one of those 'How did they do that' photoshop tutorials to show some of us noobs how to restore a pic backlit like that. The final pic is a very deserving blue ribbon winner. Congrats!

I really like the composition and the angle you chose to use in the challenge. The light reflecting of the hat adds just enough light on the left side of her face. The expression is great, IMO a different flower would have made me believe that she was going in for the smell. Great shot non the less. 8

Great use of light, love the use of thirds as well. The flower and plant stem leading the eye up to the top third of the image and to the focus of the image. Great use of depth of field as well, keeps a person looking at the focus point of the image...

This is just radiating off the monitor...the warm late day light is wonderful and makes this photo literally come to life. Beautiful portrait!

Way cool. You're the 1st I've seen in this contest to use the sun as backlight! Great decision. I love the rimming effect. The beautiful model doesn't hurt, either!
