The dichotomy between one's thoughts and one's actions....the holes in the concrete off to the left represent the "bubbles" of thought, while the singular hole to the right is the one action. Which to choose? We are all construction workers...building on thoughts and actions.

Eliza, your interpretation is a sound one, but not the only one. I saw all the holes as thought, established by having his head look like one of the holes. "Action" is implied by his profession, and the unmade environment that he is there to build up. The rubble below him is chaos, and the lines can be taken to represent some sort of organizing process, like a flowchart.

But the reason this gets a ribbon is that beyond the intellectual interpretation there is a strong *feeling* and *mood*. I interpret it as a Hamlet sort of quandary, which is supported by your title. Others will interpret it differently. But the feeling is there, and strong.

I agree with Posthumous that this is highly underrated. I was one of your 7's.

Deserved - this is a really interesting shot, technically has quite a few problems, and the light is really tough, but you have a great eye to see this,

nice job, Jack

This is one of those deep photos. And it's going over my head today lol. I hope you have a description of what you intended. Unless he is pausing for a moment while working?

I like the composition here very much. However you have a big problem with noise artifacts, probably as a result of a less than ideal jpeg conversion, or even just a sub-standard camera. I don't think this addresses the idea of dichotomy as much it could.
