This really isn't a shoehorn as Plants and Animals represent a natural dichotomy in the organization of living things. (ya, I know we got fungi and bacteria as well, but the phrase is well known).

Caught this beautiful swallowtail and cut down a bloom from the butterfly bush in my backyard. Popped Mr. Swallowtail in the fridge for 7 minutes while I set the bloom up in the shade. He hung out for 6 or 7 minutes and was just beautiful to obvserve from close up. Swallowtails are hard to shoot because they sit with wings open. That makes you forced to either get their face, or the color of their wings, but not both. I went for the face.

Hmmm. Surprising where this one placed. IMHO...you were robbed. I love this macro.

This is a contrast, not a dichotomy - the two elements are not in conflict or mutually exclusive - in fact, quite the opposite. I like the composition and color contrast. Macro photography always impresses me because I am totally incapable of doing it. 7

Very nice picture and great colors, but I'm not sure if it's Dichotomy and since I'm not even sure to understand Dichotomy myself, I'm voting all pictures as if they meet the challenge.

OOH! Wonderful capture of a Tiger Swallowtail! Can't ID the plant though. After seeing many boring pics of this lep, this one is truly refreshing! A 10 in my book, but I might be alone here. 10

Great narrow DOF!!!! I like the way his one antennae blurs into the background. Terrific focus. With this idea being so esoteric, I was hoping for maybe a more thoughtful approach, but this image is great for a nature shot.
