 I walked about a quarter of a mile to where there is a patch of prairie flowers, dragging my macro lens and tripod. When I stopped to get some shots I was attacked by mosquitoes. I took a few shots, but everytime I stopped I was bitten, so I didn't get the shots I wanted.

Quite a sacrifice you made but looks like it paid off for you. I'd crop off a little to the left (learned that from Bear ;) and maybe get rid of the red spot on the leaf in the lower left (I know that's nit picky but it's just something I noticed.

Nice clear focus and spot on color.

This looks like prairie coreopsis (Coreopsis palmata). Would need to see the shape of the leaves and height of the plant to know for sure. Very good lighting here - bright without losing any of the details. I would crop out half of the negative space to put the center of the stem right on the thirds.

Beautiful color and detail. Lovely image. There is some sort of tinge on the edge of the top left petal but otherwise...perfect.
