It's pretty disheartening to see this gorgeous shot didn't do better! excellent composition and tonalities...

i really expected this shot to do better in the contest. I think its really creepy, especially because the depth of field makes the spider seems to be crawling out of the unknown or darkness, beyond the viewers comfort zone, and coming in to pounce! Very emotional and very well done photograph. Sorry you didnt do better. Also think that this fits well with the challenge theme, since spiders are something scary that one normally associates with night/darkness.

The most under-rated shot of the challenge. Nice work. You should have scored much higher.

might be better if the whole spider was in focus, instead of just it's front legs

This is mesmerizing... makes me want to back up and look closer at the same time (I'm allergic to spiders though I love the way they move)... beautifully done.

Very nice. I love spiders, my wife hates them. Awesome. Great appearance of natural transparency.

Excellent DOF trick - and an excellent image all round, though perhaps not really within the idea of the challenge (you get a 9 nevertheless, just for its being wonderful). I rather think it might be too odd an image to score well, even if it fit the challenge perfectly - this comment is really only to explain what I'm presuming will be a poorer score than i personally think this deserves.

Fascinating spider study. She looks almost transparent here. B/W works well to bring attn to the details and the form. Composition is strong.

Is it better at night?

A truly scary looking spider. Not sure I like the DOF, but it does give you sharp view of what is here while hiding what is to come. Very interesting shot.
