I am a mountain woman. I have lived in the Southern Appalachians all of my life, as did my parents, my grandparents, my great-grandparents, and so forth. My family tree shows that I have ancestors living here before the Revolutionary War.
I've never been out of the mountains for more than two or three weeks at any time, and being in flat places makes me nervous.
I'm also terrified of storms, which I attribute to living in a place that doesn't have many. :)
mountain laurel is so beautiful... one of the the many beautiful things in the appalachians. love the little speckles of green against the petals, and the kiss of pink on the tips! nicely done! thanks for sharing!
Oh, so pretty. Great story, too. I'm a small-town hill-dweller myself, although I'm only third-generation in one direction and maybe fifth or sixth in the other (actually, before that, "we" were much closer to your neck of the woods). I too have lived here my whole life and left only for brief vacations. So I know where you're coming from with that.
Thanks for sharing the photo, and yourself, with us. :) Nicely done on both counts.
