July 1
I'm Maxine (maxaz1) in Arizona. I just turned 60 (arghhhh), and I plan to retire this year. My home is here in Scottsdale/Phoenix, and I spend lots of time in a little mountain community about 95 miles north of here, Strawberry. I try to walk a few miles at least 5 mornings a week. This time of year, it has to be VERY early, since it's in the 80s already when I leave the house. Mon-Fri,I walk at 5am. Today I didn't leave the house until about 6am.
Out for my morning walk, surprised by a "wild" budgie taking in a little sun with another type of feathered friend. There is a flock that is rumored to be descended from or the same group of birds that took to the air when a local pet shop burned down about 20 years ago. They return to the same general location every spring - I never see them in the winter.

I know there is too much noise in this pic. I had forgotten to lower the ISO after trying for some full moon shots last night (unsucessfully). I decided to use this picture anyway - After all, I have 49 days to improve...

The first thing I think of when I see these birds sitting on the cactus is "ouch". :) It looks so precarious and possibly painful. Good capture of an interesting scene.

It is grainy but a cool catch! Man a lot of you really get out & see things.

How lucky for you to find two different birds like this. Great contrast between the two.

How interesting to find such different birds in one spot. (Here in Kansas, there are just a lot of Robins and Cardinals and they don't play well together, apparently). I also like the composition, nice image.

Too bad about the noise! I like the birds (the green one seems to be everywhere, even in Amsterdam). And what a giant cactus! (Or are the birds so small?)
