This was taken on an overpass on the I-15 Highway just north of my house. Studio monolights were used with white umbrellas for diffusion. Monolights were used on low power, and the modeling lights were used for setup then shut-off. Once the flash fired the soldier walked off camera for the rest of the exposure.

Adjusted the blue and red levels and the brightness and contrast a smudge.

Thanks for all of your comments. I thought this image would do better, but after reading the comments I think I didn't do a good enough job telling the story.

The lights to right are automobiles on the freeway. Notice the white lights coming, and the red lights going. The idea is that as war memories (or nightmares) fade, a new reality appears that can be just as frightening and disconcerting as the immediate life and death situations that one faces in war-time.

Very interesting effect. I'll be anxious to know your technique for partial transparency. Composition is good, though I'm tempted to crop the sky just a little. The bright light just behind his head gets a lot of attention.

Ghost recon? Nice transparent effect. The light in the upper right is a little distracting, but I like the composition and the concentration.

Very cool shot. Really enjoy the composition and the effect is really quite neat.

The dim lighting on the person versus bright background gets your message across very effectively. The large out-of-focus structure at the right does pull the viewer's eye away from the main subject, unfortunately.
