Taken late on a cold night, in the cloisters of the great court at Uni. I was just setting up, and spotted a guy at having a smoke break at the end of the row, and snapped off a few shots. I took some other more deliberate setup shots, but this shot fitted this challenge better than any others, so here it is.
We've had a recent cold snap, so he was well rugged up in black, and made a cool sillhouette in the shadows. In editing, I actually dodged around him a little to enhance his outline, because his outline defines his character. Hopefully it doesn't invalidate the challenge that I've deliberately tried to stop him hiding so much. :) Actually, despite his tiny size, he is obviously the focus of the image, with the concentric frames and leading lines all focusing the viewer in on him.
Editing steps
- major desat and WB adjustment for the horrible orange lights
- crop
- colour balance adjustment
- another desat
- dodge and burn.
- cloned out a little concrete wheelchair ramp that was in the hallway. (why anyone wants a concrete wheelchair, I don't know). Also cloned out a black box right at the top left.
- USM
- resize for web
- border
- USM (yes, there is artifacts from sharpening after adding the border. I couldn't be bothered redoing it now, but I'll be more careful next time.)

MMM archways and repetitive patterns...I just love them, Not to hard to spot Waldo but he also feels like he belongs in the shot which really enhances the overall effect

| Interesting image, with so few colors throughout but not b&w; I like the perspective and there are interesting things to see, but for some reason I keep finding my eyes drawn to the brightness of the lights, lingering there and not looking down the path. Maybe that's what would happen if I was there, and I would trip and fall because I was looking up at the lights. Interesting shot. |

| actually a real nice pic, but all the leading lines converge close to Waldo which makes him visible a first glance |
