Challenge: New Year's Resolution II (Classic Editing)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S5000 Z
Location: Lisboa - Portugal
Date: Jan 6, 2004
Aperture: f 2.8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 2"
Galleries: Persuasive
Date Uploaded: Jan 7, 2004

By the way, I am a non-smoker.

The hanging rope is a shadow cast by a small string.

Slow shutter to capture the red fire burning in the tip.

Rotated 90 degrees right.
Negative.
Shifted Hue 180 degrees to restore real colors.
Adjusted Histogram.
USM (of course...)
"Edge preserving smooth" to remove a bit of noise.

Tried to capture the X-Ray look, a look inside a smokers lungs.

Boa sorte Pipoca!!!

Hello everyone! Thanks for your votes.

Yes, I also expected the photo to finish better: the commenters had an average of 7.2 but the general voting was 5.4.

Actualy this was not my first choice, but all other takes turned out worst soo I submited this one. I knew I had a photo on the top 50% before submitting, but after reading the coments, was building a hope to place among all the other "quit smoking"s. Such is life.

Oh well, off to the next challenge we go...

Another one who gave you a 10 and would have loved to see this picture place much better

Well done, Basilio!

I gave you a 10 and am also surprised at your finish. I found this shot to be creative, original, unique and striking and you just taught me a thing or two about post-processing manipulation. Congratulations on a photo very well done.

I am surprised at how low you finished. I really thought this would be in the top 10. Good work on this shot.

What did you do with the colours? It seems you inverted them if you look to the cigarette (that is black instead of white and the marlboro sign is white instead of black). but the filter is brown like usual. and also the smoke is grey, like the colour are natural. Few questions: what is the grey alone close to the filter? how did you do the wonderful shape with the smoke?
Anyway...congratulation!

PS exclusion?

The border's way too big for me, too overpowering. It distracts from the photo too much. The ciggy itself looks a little fuzzy as well.

Intense shot! Very Symbolic, this is the best "quit smoking" shot I've seen. I like the combination of Ideas. The cigeratte hanging mid air is also very cool. The focus could be a little better. 9

This is very clever and out of all the quit smoking pics I have seen so far this is by far the best
Great shot

Really like this. Normally hate close ups of cigarettes. Like the noose, how did you do that? 9

Nice. A bit dark unfortunately.

There's definitely a mood of morbidity in this photo, perhaps the reason why it's so dark. title fits the photo well. Personally I think the border overpowers the image.

Very cool, how did you do this? Looks like maybe the cigarette is laying on a picture of the smokey looking noose. Cool idea. (8)
