Very foggy morning.

The town of Hays (population of about 25,000) was first established as a military post called Fort Hays. Many famous individuals, such as General George Custer,"Buffalo Bill" Cody and James B. "Wild Bill" Hickok lived here in the 1800's.

Hays maintains a small herd of buffalo as a tourist attraction. One of my son's friends is related to James (Scotty) Philip, remembered as the "man who saved the buffalo" from extinction. His family moved into this area in the 1800's, but he found life here in Kansas difficult, so he moved on to South Dakota.

(Two years ago, a second fence had to be placed around the pasture by the city because on three separate occasions, tourists were gored as they stood too close to the fence during the taking of photos. Needless to say, buffalo are NOT the shy, docile creatures they appear to be!)

Very cool image! I love the dark, heavy animal against the misty, pastel backdrop -- a great contrast that makes this pop! Would be interesting if his face was brought out of shadow a bit to be able to see his expression.
