Location: Peralta Trailhead, Superstition Mountains
Date: Jan 5, 2004
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/320

Date Uploaded: Jan 5, 2004

A cactus wren at the Peralta Trailhead. I just hope this one places in the top 50%... I do expect to get a few comments that birds eat twice their weight. I don't plan to do that, however the meaning most people are familiar with is my New Year's Intention. :-)

Post-Processing: crop, re-size, adjust levels (0 to 57 and 255 to 217) and USM (150%, radius=1, threshold=4). Handheld at 300mm with Canon 75-300mm USM III lens.

Simple, very silky shot with a well balanced composition, although it might be preferable to have the subject point into the image instead out of it. The focus on the rock also appears slightly crisper than on the bird. The beak, particularly, is quite soft-focused Yet,

a very satisfying image at such proximity. The light is very apt, the depth of field shallow and both colours and textures are rendered strikingly natural. Fit for an illustration, even a pictorial, IMO.

Lovely shot. Sad distraction bottom-right of photo, despite blurring-out by shallow dof.

Looks like a pretty fat bird to me. I like the colors and textures. These little suckers are fast and don't stay still long. Good gatch!

Great clarity in this shot. Good use of DOF.
If you had captured the bird with food in it`s beak that would have been perfection

great dof - must have been a big lens. Slightly soft on the birds head, seems as is you focused on teh rock rather than birds eye.
