I WON A RIBBON! I WON A RIBBON!

If you couldn't tell by now - I'm very happy! Thanks everyone for the votes and comments!

Setup was fairly simple: I was holding an external flash in my hand aimed at my face, as soon as the shutter clicked I triggered it. Then, in total darkness, I put down the flash, picked up a flashlight instead and did the "vortex". The face is sharp because it was only lit by the flash. However, some light from the flashlight bled onto the hand, hence the "bluriness" that "made" the photo for a lot of the commenteers.

Funny thing is, I was going for a "magus" look who throws a vortex of light at the camera. The "another dimension gate" idea only came after I saw the pic. Also, this was initially supposed to be just a test image - if I had known it would be good enough to submit I would have at least taken away the floor lamp that you can almost see in the back (drove me mad during voting) :-)).

Thanks again everybody and go Team Cosmo!

Haha, when looking at the shot in thumbnail size I saw a cigarette coming out of that vortex and I just went "what the heck?", it made no sense to me :) Guess my feeble brain plays tricks on me on occasion, hehe.

Congrats on the ribbon dude, keep it up!

Now that's really cool! I like the way the face is sharp and exposed properly and the arm is sort morphing into the light!

very cool, not sure if it would be better to have the person at the edge rather then through the side though?

This is great. It really does look like he is entering another dimension. I like how his face is clear and his arm is blurry like it is already being sucked in. Very good.
