IMO this has gone too far. the human eye is used to seeing light in a particular way, and the HDR effect, as used by so many, pushes the darks so far to the light that it looks strange and unnatural to the eye. Granted there is application for this kind of look, if you are doing a book cover for a strange town that you get to on a strange bridge.
I would prefer to see this over the original, and screened back to about 20-40% opacity. Now I'm just speaking to the lower half of this photo - I think what you've done with the sky is beautiful, my eye would like to see more contrast there - but I'm a contrast addict.
In general I take an effect to where I think it's cool, and back it off by 60% or more so I'll like it when I come back to it in 2 2 weeks.
