 I wouldn't be surprised If I'm marked down for using lights as well as the obvious lightpainting, due to the "primary method", but I'd try to justify my use for two reasons:-
Firstly, I like the extra challenge ;) But also, because in my photograph, I believe that the light painting is an integral part of the subject rather than just a lighting technique.

When I thought of what I wanted to do, I didn't have a sun, but the photograph was a bit too bland, and kinda didn't look like a planet much. It did take a LOT more tries than I thought to get the rings behind the apple properly.

And yes, I did eat the apple afterwards :D

nice idea and good title - I just with the 'dead star' had a little more curvature and rings were more uniform

Nice lighting on the apple. I don't think the thing on the left helps the image, I am simply distracted trying to figure out what it is.
