Browing pictures and suddenly I find something like this - and it makes my day :)
This is just an amazing picture full of atmosphere and mystique. Who is this girl? What is she doing? What is she looking at?
The way you chose to not include any surroundings is just great and your use of empty space is even better. Furthermore the tint you chose fits the picture perfectly. In short: A wonderful picture!

| I like how her head outlines are not sharply focused and she melts a bit into the negative space. Conveys the notion of a strongly sunlit day very well. |

just a stunning image. I often like portraits of people's backs. It leaves us with a sense of mystery, and a sense of wanting more. I also know as an artist how hard it is to get the light and shadows right on a back to show the forms of bone and muscle there. This is perfect in that respect.
a word on composition. I like this composition, and it's highly subjective, but I will try to explain. I think the off-center composition without a background is *very* problematic and totally overused at DPC. The only time it works is when the subject interacts with the space. In this case, she is looking down into it, twisting her whole body toward it, though coyly enough she still hasn't managed to get there. It's also not a simplistic thirds composition. She is pushed to the extreme left. Almost but not quite out of bounds, like an excellent gymnast on the floor exercise. |
