 People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love...

Where Is The Love
Black Eyed Peas, From the Album Elephunk (2004)

**************************************************************

This is my, admittedly, feeble attempt to make the chain look like the map of Africa.
Kept thinking about what I could photograph to bring over my thoughts on religion and the words of the Black Eyed Peas song kept going through my mind.
I used a building site lamp to light the cross and chain from one side to make the shadows (the lengthy shadows are my fingers).
Put the cross on a piece of paper on my living room carpet, also the lamp on the carpet to the right. Me, down on my knees (how fitting ;-), trying to hold the camera steady with one hand whilst placing the fingers of the other hand at the right angle to get the long shadows (to do this I had to cross my arms…aarrgh). I now wonder why I didn’t put the lamp to the left, it would have made things so much easier.

I hope, in the way I’ve presented this, that some understand the symbolic and don’t just see it as a cross on a chain. I’ll take the chance…

Postchallenge:

The score on this picture was so low at the beginning I seriously considered a self DQ, then I got my first comment. It cheered me up so much that I reconsidered and now I’m glad I did.

Thanks a million to all of you who voted and commented, you really made my week.

Visually, I do not see how this ties in with Africa. I do love your use of shadows and the color tone of the pic.

Agreed, let's hope no one exports the anguish, misguidance and false hopes that are so common with most religion!

Nicely taken shot. If there'd been some way of working Africa in to the picture the title would have provided a better link.

Took me a while to see the Africa connection in the shape of the chain. Innovative expression of the topic.
