Dark Hollow Falls is the closest waterfall to Skyline Drive, the road that runs along the spine of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park, in western VA.

I went camping with friends, and unlike my usual habits, woke up at 5:45 am. My inability to sleep probably had something to do with my brand new D200, with which I wanted to get an entry for this challenge (by "new" I mean I'd bought it the day before we left).

I knew I wouldn't be able to take my time if I waited until my friends and daughters were with me, so I got up and started walking. Eventually I ended up at these falls. I forgot my tripod at home, so I put my backpack on a handy rock and fired away. I already miss the flip-out LCD on my S2 IS!

This is an edited JPG from the camera - I shot NEF also, but haven't yet installed the NEF converter. :)

Editing: shadow/highlights on a layer that was set to 47% opacity over an unedited layer. That brought out the shadow areas pretty well, but there's also a soft light layer to bring them out a bit more (that selection is the only thing beyond basic editing, as it turns out). Also included some curves and, of course sharpening and cropping. And a channel mixer.

Hey, we were there the same day, though I didn't get up quite as early = P Shame about that tree falling down over the falls. I wonder if it happened during the lightening/hail storm the night before. A little over-saturated imho, but a nice composition.

I find the branches on the left a bit distracting, but otherwise very pretty. Nice dramatic angle. And nice use of the new camera :D

The would have been a 10 in my book had it not been for the branches on the lower left. Beautiful photo 8

Very pretty. The water is nice. I wish that little red object wasn't in the bottom right of the water though.

colors are bright. almost too saturated. Is the orange object a coy fish? Not sure if you could have pulled back to get more orange coy in. I like.

the greens seem slightly over saturated ... great composition ... fits the challenge perfectly

Ooh, pretty. Nice long exposure. There's a tiny distracting element in the lower left...that orange...is it a fish? or a leaf? Idono. Maybe desaturing it could help. But that's minor.
