|After several different takes at the challenge, I finally settled on this one at the recommendation of my wife. She usually knows best!
The sunset this evening was particularly fabulous, and I was hard-pressed to capture it in the few minutes it lasted. This shot was taken just off the freeway on my way home from work. I was attempting to get far enough down the road to get the pure silhouette of the mountains but was unable to due to a locked gate and private land. In the end, however, I much preferred the shots with the silhouette of the power transmission tower-- it just added something to the shot.
Ultimately, the division or 'edge' between the sky and earth is what I chose to represent.
No changes to color, levels, or contrast; this is otherwise straight from the camera. Used despeckle filter, then a slight sharpening with USM (in fact, it was a very fine line between too little and too much) at 125%/0.6/20.
