Inspired by some of the incredible images I had seen on the site, which I had discovered only a few days earlier, I tried to create a shot that expressed some of my deepest feelings, and for a first effort was really happy with what came out.

The setup was amateurish at best - my little F30 perched on a couple of Stephen Kings on top of a CD rack gave the right height, and I played around with the lamps to give myself the sort of lighting I wanted. I found the 10 second timer completely insufficient to get myself in position (it's not that easy crawling under my bed you know - I got some nasty carpet burn on my right knee) and to conjure up the sort of expression I wanted.

Editing: Dodge and burn (the first time I'd used it - I had great fun), brightness and contrast, and I cloned out my feet which were sticking out and a wire from the lamp on the right.

I'll tell you what made this work - you know what it is, right? It's using the Stephen King books to prop up the camera.... :-)

I have days when I wish I could do that. You do very well with self-portaits.

Very cool image - despite the sterility of the banal surroundings, that added touch with the cowering figure under the bed just makes this shot explode with story.

OH wow. I'm glad I read the comments because I completley missed the you under the bed. That little bit adds so much and gives this image a powerful twist of a story.

Superb.

I am LOVIN' this!! Technically fantastic, BW conversion is well done and it took me a second to find the person under the bed. They are obstructed just enough so that they dont stand out first but the highlights off the knuckle eventually draw the eye into this wonderful dramatic emotive surprise. WELL DONE!
