The original idea was to make a wreath of lights emerge from a coil of barb wire. This proved complicated and painful, so I abandoned it for a simpler approach. I cut the barbs from the wire with bolt cutters and threaded them onto the Christmas light wire, then stretched and twisted the wire. I wish I had been able to shoot this in a studiio, but I was on holiday, and had to set up in a basement!

Thanks to all for your kind words.

Neat idea! Doesn't fit the challenge too well though. Still, something like this gets good marks for creativity alone, nevermid a flawless execution.

Although there are many nice images in this challenge, this one speaks to me on a personal level. The message is very powerful. It fits the challenge very well as it shows the boundary between two very different worlds.

I like the way you composed it, the way the darker side is behind the lights and the lighter side behind the wire. I think this could have been even better in b&w, but no points taken off for colour. You get full marks form me.

Unique idea, and excellent lighting! Your choose of subject is simply amazing! I like the background transition from white to black, too. One of my few 10s in this challenge, my pick for a ribbon! :-)

this is one of my top 3 favorites in this challenge. It would have been my hands down winner because I really like the simple way you have expressed the concept of war and peace and the blurred edge between them, but I think the long wide framing and the background gradient are visually uninteresting.

i absolutely love this picture. i think it might be slightly out of focus, but the concept and implications make this my favorite picture of this challenge.

Awesome work! A brilliant piece of art for this contest topic.
1 - On the edge of darkness to light.
2 - from restriction to inviting
3 - Pain to pleasure
I like the title and how it relates to the image in my mind, but I think quite differently.
I love this shot, but i think some might not see the connections it has to "Borders" because it's subtle. Perhaps too subtle for flash voters that fly on bye without taking time to think about the depth. I'm giving it a 9. If the gray-light area were a little more even, it would have pulled a 10 from me.
