Sounds easy but was really hard! Ended up with some of my wife's crafting bits and a mirror. Used some 500w floods and a tent to spread the light.

I have reduced the saturation as well. The plastic 'gems' were glowing as a result of the lights and needed toning down a bit.

I am quite pleased with the finished article. I think it says shapes.

Greetings from the critique club!

A great idea that unfortunately needed something more to give it that "Wow" factor for the voters. The angle is probably where I would start. Getting a lower angle would definitely help.

Even with this type of shot, try to think in terms of what your main object of focus is. There is a lot going on in this picture and the viewer doesn't know what you want them to look at. A lot angle with the wide aperture you used would draw the eye to the items in focus. It would then start straying away from the central area and start exploring. It would also create a feeling of depth. This composition is unfortunately a little two dimensional.

Desaturating the colors might have also worked against you. You have a lot of vibrant colors in this shot. Subduing them really takes away alot of the impact I think. Just as a thought (i.e. something to try some time). Try to organize these by color. Give the shot an overall them.

I would really be curious how this would turn out if you give some of these things a try. It might be worth a second try I think.

I would have prefered sharper focus

Nice mix, but I feel like you need to open up the aperture a bit more to get everything in focus. Also, the light could probably be a little warmer.
