There were lots of deer about at Roxborough State Park this morning. This was taken at a bit of a distance and cropped way down - hence the lack of sharpness.

IIRC:
convert from RAW
shadow/highlight
channel mixer to b/w
resized
despeckled
dodged on deer's face and ears
aggressively smart sharpened
turned down the brightness a touch
gothic glow layer, scaled back to under 20%
color balance: shadows +3 blue, highlights +3 yellow

It just appear a little to soft for me..... I do like the composition, and how the tree has framed the image.....

I like the way you have framed the deer with foliage. I can't imagine that you had too much time to set this up, given the fleet-footedness of your subject matter.

I like what you've done with the processing to "bring this back" from an otherwise difficult shot. The crop is really good, and the subject feels nice and close (almost looking at me thinking, "What are you looking at??"). I agree processing gives it a more artsy look, which is appealing. I might have cloned out the lamp pole under the legs, if possible; it's a bit distracting to me.
