Challenge: Free Study 2007-05 (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Sony DSC-S75
Location: Columbus River Walk / Dam
Date: May 11, 2007
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/2
Galleries: Landscape, Water
Date Uploaded: May 11, 2007

Okay so this was taken just after the sun went down at the river walk in Columbus, GA. There was still enough light for a longer exposure than a daylight but not too much light that it would blow out the image. I think it was about .5 of a second. Wait let me scroll down and look...

Yep, it was .5 of a second. Okay here is the deal with this image. I used selective colors for the sky to make it yellow and then erased away the light polls so they didn't look so yellow.

The water looks pretty much like that straight from the camera so I was extremely please with the way it turned out. I used the D/B on area's that were real dark and real bright to bring them out even more.

On this same note it's getting pretty close to roll over for the FS pics and I am doubting it more and more each day because voters won't like the yellow sky and say how unnatural it is. Well I think the yellow and blue really contrast each other and makes this a very interesting image. Once the challenge is over I will post the original so you can see what it looked like.

My goal score I'll shoot for is a 5.600 Lets see what happens.

Okay after playing around with the PSD file I decided to enter a dark sky pic. I just opened the yellow sky PSD file and used adjustment layers to change the sky to black. Channel mixer was involved and some selective color as well.

I will also post the yellow sky as well.

HEY HEY HEY 165 out of 613, I'll take that... Thanks everyone. Here is the one I was going to submit.

Joe

Well I have to be honest and sat when I flew over the hoover dam and took my picture I was at least thinking it would be the best dam shot in the free study and then you went and trumped me with this one

Wonderful image....

I think we could call it an honourable draw in terms of best pun used in the title though

The yellow one is way to harsh on the eyes...you chose right with this one.

beautiful motion blur of the water, with great colors, wonderful lines too from the water falling. unfortunately the bridge, road and lights are not working at all with the main subject, imo the photo would be better if you'd cropped right along the top of the dam and pushed this just a bit more to the abstract.

Can't vote but I like this picture a lot. Beautiful waters, you did a great job. Maybe cropping out the bridge would have been ok, we can try & see..

Realize it is probably intentional, but the blue tone seems a little too blue to me. Beautiful water, though.

Lovely shot :) Did you have to do it in two halves to avoid overexposing the lights above?

Pretty image. Nice use of color to bring it all together. I might have cropped a little tighter on the lamps but that's a personal choice. Probably would have gone with a different title, doesn't seem to match the image to me.

Nice shot, but I think you would rate higher if you strightened out the horizon line.
