Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: I think that you overexposed this one just a bit. The white on the vehicle, as well as the pants and the lady's nose look a little hot to me. I think that taking the exposure down just a touch would have also added a more dramatic feel to the image.

Lighting: As I mentioned above, a little too bright. The brightness of the image makes a bit difficult to look at. This is a tough one to manage the light to begin with. The bright sun on the white, along with the harsh white of the vehicle makes it really hard.

Composition/Content: I do like your content, but perhaps not for this challenge.

My Opinion: I think that this one would have been better for a different challenge. Nice work, and I look forward to much more of your work.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric

Interesting but not related to the challenge as I don't think an accident is really a cultural event per se.

Am I missing something, but quite a few entries in this Challenge are not related to Cultural Events. This shot is very traumatic, but not "Cultural" to my mind.

i like the title. there is something odd in this picture. it looks like these is someone behind the woman but i can only see the lower part of his body. interesting capture.

I think this shot captures the anguish of this event in the ladies face. It is a big part of today’s culture, other’s here on DPC may not see it that way regrettably. = 9
I think a little less contrast to take away the glare may improve this image

What does this have to do with cultural events?

Based on this forum thread ==> Photographer's comments during challenge voting

...and this comment:
onejumpjohnny - \"I just voted on a challenge piece which clearly (and very effectively)represented a crash scene. Since I find this genre personally upsetting, I left comments based upon the face value of the shot (and justifying my low score vote!) Little did I know at the time it was a \"staged\" activity set at a local high school for educational purposes.\"

I wanted to see if I was able to accurately identify the photo being referenced. I'll have to come back after the challenge has finished voting to find out. :D

BTW - Good luck in the challenge.

technically you've captured a fine journalistic piece, nice color, nicely composed and conceived (very sorry for the misconception on my part!)

I think people on here to see more reality!
Great shot.

I'm not sure a car crash qualifies as a cultural event. There's good composition here between the car and the lady. She's out of focus though putting too much emphasis on the car.

Whether or not you get offended by images such as this is a highly subjective thing, and in this instance I am not sure you have acted with consideration to the unfortunate woman in the shot. Irrespective of this, I can't see how this relates to the theme of Cultural Events.

A bit of a stretch for the challenge, I think. I mean, I doubt they called the insurance company and said that they were involved in a tragic cultural event... :)

this seems like a snapshot ... also, IMHO, doesn't fit the challenge

moving.

A bit intrusive
