Aperture: F5.6

THE IMAGE: It was a really las minute thing. I saw that there were so few mages that I had to dip in. I am sure that rather than this being the Dr Seuss challenge it will be the 'Green Eggs and Ham' challenge and that there could be a few images like this. I went for a breakfast foodie shot.

Used outdoor shaded light on my outside deck and placed the props on a white card. F5.6 with my 30mm 1.4 lens provided a nice sharp image which I could edit.

EDIT: Not really a good edit here. I masked for the green eggs and that didn't produce the right look, so the Photoshop experts will pick on me. Just very basic editing. Healed out some stones on the base of the fishbowl. Used some selective blurring and sharpening which I think workd for food shots.

PREDICTION: I don't think this will do that well as there should be lots of green eggs and ham, but maybe a 6.2 would be nice. It was a touch challenge. I wish I had more time.

Hello from the Critique Club,

I didn't vote in this challenge, so this critique is the first time I've seen your image. In fact, I haven't even looked through the results yet so I have no idea what the other Green Eggs and Ham entries look like. My first impression of your image is "Ok, where is the ham and what is up with the green Jell-O egg yokes". What did work here is that the breakfast plate has the look of something that would be expected more at a bistro instead of at home. That level of detail made it easy to look past the green colored ham and the Jell-O looking egg yolks. You scored about where you predicted and I enjoyed your interpretation of the theme.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding this critique.

Tim

Great photo, great composition.
Is the part next to tomatoes out of focus for a reason?

Green eggs are plain wrong. I like everything except the candles, they do not seem to fit.

The colors are vibrant. I think I would like it more without the blur, and a longer depth of field. The composition is great, I love it.

Nice shot. You seem to have a real knack for food/table photography. If it weren't for the green eggs and ham, this photo would do well in any lifestyle magazine.

I see random spots of blur here and there.
A little messy looking with the blurry spots..
The image is a bit cluttered looking, but it meets the challenge and its very colorful.

A lot of effort in this composition and in general it is very good but IMO the white kind of predominates and makes the shot stark. I think this would have been improved with the addition of a pastel colour in the background and a bit less use of the smudge/blur tool. The composition is top notch = 6

The meal is a bit too elaborate to really fit the Dr Seuss image. It's a bit like green eggs and ham served at the breakfast menu of an alfresco cafe, with some interesting cutlery and other table ornaments, including a goldfish which Dr Seuss brought along from another story. Maybe would have been better to keep it simple, so the subject of the photo doesn't get lost in the clutter. There's also something wierd going on with the focus in the centre of the image. I assume it's been taken at a small aperture, and then manually blurred later in editing to get the shallow DOF effect, but I can't work out why that one tomato is blurred when everything around it is in focus. Nice colours and detail though.

An arresting image. No one will accuse you of being overly subtle. Maybe it's the over-the-top saturation that grabs me. More I look, better I like.

I still don't like green eggs and ham,
Not even with candles and tomatos and jam.
The decorative setting, it won't trick me.
I prefer to eat toast, with a cup of tea!

Not sure about those eggs... jello? You've given everything an overly smooth look, which helps with that Seuss/cartoon feeling. Nice vibrant colors... but I still wouldn't eat those eggs!

IMHO you overloaded the photo with adding all the other objects (fish, candles).

I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.
No No No green ham is not said! But I like your photo instead, 7,8,9 would be real fine! So I give you a 9! 9/10

I am just about 1/2 way through voting, You made the eggs and ham look so fancy, and not very gross. This would have been great even with out the candles. Nice work here. 8

Where's the ham?!? Great capture with wonderful colors - I like the 'red fish' in it as well.
