Happy May Day!!
I "may" have gone a little smart-sharpen crazy, but whatever. I like the texture of the petals, but I know the white ones are blown out. oh well.

No set-up, just a snapshot.

Very interesting shot, it does drawl you in quite well. I think the downside are the white flowers, If those wheren't there I think this image would really pop even more.... even if it is only a snapshot 6-;

i do like the textures - very cool. I think i'd like to see this with the white flowers on the left cropped out.

Nice choice of subject. This is a very interesting flower for B&W, the edges really maintain the shape of the flower and the stigma/stamen make the center pop. The white ones that you say are blown you could have done some masking on those and darkened them up...or some blur effect to make them less distracting. On this photo though the main flower is so interesting that it's not as distracting. Very nice job.

You've got some blown areas, as you realize, but not sure they detract in this case. Interestingly, this almost looks like it was processed in negative. Good job of reducing all those textures via dodging and burning.

Hey - I like the slightly over-sharpened look on this. Really makes it pop and gives it an artsy-gritty feel. Great job.

I don't think you went "sharpen crazy" at all! I like the texture in the darker areas, the effect of the black on black. I don't mind the white ones to the side, but some of the background in the upper left is distracting. I think b/w often needs simpler backgrounds since color isn't available to us to pop the subject - it falls to texture and contrast.
