This is a fun tree, personally I would like to see it sharper with a shallower dof. A bit more contrasty would definitely create a really strong mood for this tree as well. I really like the possible imagery it presents.

I like the different textures a lot and think this captures a feeling of emptiness quite well. I do think the tones could be brought out a little more.

I love the separation of the sky, the trees, and the ground. The tree reaching into the sky is gorgeous. Would it look bad if you cropped off some of the bottom, maybe even some of the base of the tree? Nice capture!

Very simple subject. Lends itself well to black and white, but background trees seem to cut image too much in half. Maybe a lower vantage, like kneeling down, and shooting upwards to get those background trees lower in the composition.

I echo Sandy's words. The tones here are excellent. Just for interest, I wonder how it would look with the little surrounding trees close by cloned out. Really good job with this one :)

Leisha, this is great! You won't believe this, but when I think of awesome black and white photography, I always think of a barren, lone tree -- just like this. You personified what I love about black and white photography PERFECTLY!

I like the centered composition. It looks a bit dull to me, maybe more contrast would help?

I like the b/w, good tones, good detail. I wonder if placing the horizon line not quite so close to the middle of the image would change the impact.

I particularly like the capture here, what caught my eye first was how beautifully the whispy cloud sets off the tree. Very nice choice.

Why do I like trees in shots so much? Dunno - but I love the craggy line this one creates. NICE START.

In terms of tone and contrast I think this works very well. Having said that maybe the tree could be positioned a little more off centre, and that the image would work better with more rule of thirds applied...either that or hack the smaller trees to the immediate left and right down to give more of a sense of isolation! ;)

I feel the tone of the B&W are perfect but the subject of a tree does nothing for my stimulous sorry.. looking foward to seeing your others because you done a great job with the conversion.

Just a touch more contrast. Perhaps put the tree a bit more to the right. Love the clouds. This does make you want to really look at it. Nice.

However the photo is interesting. I think some more contrast to add punch would be nice.
