Challenge: Triptych II (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Vivitar MF 400mm f/5.6.
Location: Metairie, La
Date: Apr 29, 2007
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/400s
Date Uploaded: Apr 29, 2007

All shot through a manual 400mm lens. I sat and waited for the lighting to improve and the bird to do something interesting (like fly) for almost two hours... It was a lot of fun, but I was disappointed in the lack of enthusiasm from my subject. This was shot on Lake Pontchartrain just outside of New Orleans.

Greetings from the Critique Club:

Initial reaction - first off, I love your comments. Don't you hate it when they don't cooperate?? I liked this when voting - and even did get the feeling from it that the bird was just hangin' out, not going anywhere.

Technicals - good light, good color. The top shot is very well framed showing off the wingspan nicely. While the wooden structure provides a nice natural frame, it's a bit much when repeated three times and sort of adds a little weight to the picture, if that makes sense. Very nice work with a 400mm lens - excellent clarity on your subject.

Definitely meets the challenge, too.

The upper frame draws all the attention to it, so the lower panes are somehow lost.

I like the shot in the upper frame, great bird.

Shadow across the lower left bird is distracting.

Great set - Maybe a little more variety would have helped such as closeups of the bird etc

This is great! A was actually going to do my tryptich with pelecans also. After seeing this entry, I'm glad I ended up with a different subject. Very nice work! High marks from me.
