This is my first submission, so I am looking forward to see where I stand (albeit very low).
This picture was taken after fooling around with a whisker after seeing the results of the kitchenware challenge. I used a wireless Pharox led lamp inside the whisker. To get some idea how that looks, take a look at //www.phys.uu.nl/~0304204/pics/symmake.jpg
(I'm sorry of deep linking is not allowed)

Whisker with lamp placed on wood, no extra lighting ;-)

Hahn23...why did you not just comment on the merits of the pictuer? Why comment on what you feel was "trying to influence the voting". Why throw in the 104 place finish?

You also say the photographer is trying to drag down others...

Do you remember the Wildlife III Challenge? You made many, many rude remarks about people taking "zoo shots". IMO you were trying to bring down the competition. You felt that your "wild" shots were somehow "better" only because they were "not zoo shots". Your comment on the winner of the Wildlife III shot was purely ridiculous.

With all of your "zoo shot" comments...you have NO RIGHT to challenge this photographer.

My advice is to present your best effort to the challenges, and then try to avoid the attempts to drag down others in an effort to somehow lift your own. Is your "knock down" approach the way of the Netherlands?.

Greetings from the Critique Club -

First of all - welcome to DPC. This place is a blast and I hope you get as much out of it as I have.

Next - was I an influence on this shot? I had the highest scoring whisk entry in kitchenware. If so then I am flattered, if not then lie to me so I can be flattered. ;)

Now to the image at ahnd. I think you met the challenge though mayeb a bit more out of the box. Good pattern caught and the light works pretty good underneath it. I may have preferred the wires to be tack sharp as they feel a bit soft but overall nothign major to complain about. What this is lacking in general is the wow factor that the DPC voters want to give the higher votes too. That being said a 5.7 on your first entry is a great start. My first four entries were well below 5.

Keep shooting, keep reading, keep solictating info from other site users and you will grow easily. This place is a wealth of information. But most of all keep it light and have fun. This place is all just a game with no real rewards except for your own personal growth and the making of online friends. Keep at it and have fun!

I didn't get to vote in this challenge, but looking through the entries I was struck by this thumbnail. I think your chrome bars need sharper focus, but aside from that, this is a first entry you can be proud of.

I'm sorry reading previous comments to see you've already had some controversy! As you know now, it is best not to talk about types of entries, especially during the challenge. On the other hand, the question about "the way of the Netherlands" was inappropriate and rather bizarre. Probably just a comment dashed off in anger, so don't let it bother you.

Cheers,

Woohoo a 5.745 for my first entry! :-D

hahn23, it surely wasn't my intention to influence voting, which I added immediately in the thread when I found out it was felt like that (and ask for closure of the thread, and stopped responding to prevent bumping..).
I'm sorry it went that way and will definitely think twice about immediate posting when I feel something about a challenge. If I will and still do after the voting has closed, then I might speak out, but not earlier anymore no!
I do find it quite disappointing that you think about generalizing my behavior to everyone in this country, that somehow seems totally inappropriate, although I cannot see whether you asked it to see it in proportion (if everyone does it here, it's not strange I do too). Honesty is the main way to go here, and that's the light in which I posted. (I was truly thinking that many lake reflections and flower macros stretch the definition; I'll have to adjust my mindset so it fits with the DPC majority I suppose).
Btw, congrats on your 7th place! It'll take a while for me to meet you there ;-)

A very interesting shot visually, nicely exposed, with excellent highlights and appropriate sharpness. I might have liked the crop to be symmetrical as well, but I like it as is, too.
