Challenge: Symmetry II (Basic Editing)

Date: Apr 29, 2007
Aperture: F/4

I tried to time it for a sunny day just before the mostly full moon rise, but as I got near the coast the marine layer was coming in, spoiling a great view of the city and moon. Also, the optimum symmetric headstone angles (straight on) did not show the city well. Maybe I should have done plan B and went to the zoo and shot a zebra's butt. Anyway I got to visit my parents' grave here (with not as good a view).
Cropped (out poles and lines), resized, levels auto-fix.
Optional title "synonym".

The symmetry doesn't jump out at me; but this image does speak of juxtaposition. It seems as though the wall and fence serve to barricade the cemetery from the world of the living. I like how the random vertical white shapes of the sails are contrasted with the orderly white vertical shapes of the headstones. Everything in the foreground is neat and tidy while the world just beyond is random and chaotic. Nice image.

The lines are crooked.

personally i love the background. you've got a great contrast between life and death (life in the background of course). And if you had just taken a pic of the headstones, I think it would have been a boring pic!

For the theme of the challenge, I would have preferred a closer shot of the tomb stones, without the lovely, but busy, bay in the background.

The photo has nice feeling of depth, although it doesn't seem to me to be focused quite enough on the symmetry aspect.

Now that is depth! Just not very symmetrical. If you cut out the city-scape, might have been a bit. Still a decent photo though.
