Focus is on the bird (sparrow?) and the depth of field is just right, giving a hint of the background but allowing the viewer to concentrate completely on the bird, which is the subject. The composition is sound, with space to the left, giving the bird space to 'look in to'.
You have the basis of a good photograph here, Joe - it just needs a few tweeks to give it a little more punch:
Small crop to reduce the amount of rock at the bottom of the picture
Slight levels adjustment, to give more punch

All in Photoshop elements v.4 - if you don't have photoshop, there is a piece of free-ware called The Gimp which does everything elements can, and pretty much everything the full version of photoshop does. It isn't as easy to use as Photoshop, but there are on-line tutorials. |
