This is usually what I do, more or less.
The gradient map is a black and white gradient map.

S&H is the shadow/highlights layer from below, but it wouldn't let me put all the words in.

On the selective color layer, I go into each color channel and move the black slider to adjust each hue selectively, brighten or darken reds for example.


If I am going to tone an image I have another selective color at the very top above curves. I go into neutrals first and play with the cyan, magenta, and yellow. Do the same sometimes with whites and blacks until I get what I like. :)
