Cicada shell taken with flash directly behind it. Would have liked not to have the darker edge on the left side but when I went to rearrange the flash I hit the shell and it fell and broke. I might get beat up on this since some might say it's not actually an insect anymore but a shell of an insect. I guess we will see.

Oh, I just noticed this. I love empty cicada shells and am always trying to think of unique ways to photograph them. You have done a fantastic job here and I would have given this an 8 or 9.

Very, very creepy and eery photograph. But it's definitely your skill in lighting this that makes it that way. Great job!

I love this one! Kinda grewsome (sp?) looking but very nice with the backlight and the transparancy of the shell. I do kinda get a sense of it not being in focus as much as it could....but that may just be me.

My brother used to chase me around with cicada shells when we were younger. I hated those cicadas...but I love this one. Very well executed!

I've never seen one of these in real life (we don't have them here) and I am not sure I want to! Interesting lighting here, good detail.
