Leaf Cutter Ants from the colony at Shepreth Wildlife Park. Went to shoot this with splidge and got loads of shots. Took ages to pick one to submit but decided to go with the one least in need of a crop :) Great subject and will be back again when I get a better macro lens.

Resized, sharpen and save for web.

This is a nice shot. I like the way the DOF falls off towards the last ants. The only thing I would have done differently is, it looks as if you tilted your flash to the left to take the shot which has thrown the shadow behind the ants and they are getting a bit lost, so I would have tilted the flash to the right in order to throw the shadow the other way and the ants would stand out better.

I love this composition with the rope diagonal - wish the ants in focus instead of the rope

This rope and green background looks familiar. ;) Sorry but I like the other one better. The ants are lost here in the shadows and are a victim of shallow DOF. What is in focus is very clear.

It's hard to find a focus here. the little ant 'in front' of the rope seems a little soft still. but the big ant who is in focus doesn't stand out against the background. IMO it could have been beter in the aperature was opening up.

Nice shot...Was it taken at Lodon Zoo (if not they have a similar set up with ants and rope there). I had visited it with my daughter about a week BEFORE the challenge was announced and kept thinking...God I wish I was going back. Love the capture of the ants mandibles
