Love the rustic and peaceful atmosphere portrayed here. Looks like a place I know!

Moody and atmospheric and love the light and shadows. Backrgound area too dark for my tastes.

I like the shadow and overall composition. BW give it an intersting feel

Love the light in this shot. The swing is brightly lit but the woodland behind is dark and shaded. Great framing and bags of atmosphere. Great shot - well done. 9 - floyd

This is better than any of the other swing photos I think. Even better than my own.

I like this. 7.

I like the black and white but the composition is a little off. The tree is smack dab in the middle of the pic. The area left of the swing isn't important. I'd either crop that out or just pan the camera to the right more and get the tree off center. This is the first pic I have ever rated and I hope I'm being to harsh. I really dig the blac and white.

This is a deeply moving photo. It brings to mind childhoods of the past, specificially from old black and white movies (I am thinking To Kill A Mockingbird) as I see this. Wonderful job. 9 BAMartin

At first, I wanted to suggest a little brighter, but I think that would have washed out some of the ground and tree bark, so don't do that. Shadows to sun to shadows is hard, it seems to confuse the camera. I would suggest circling round to the left. The swing bar is shaded, so doesn't show up well against the shade background, if you went to the left, you could have caught it in the sun, but I don't know, maybe the background sucked in that direction. 8 Swash

This is a superb shot. The use of B&W makes the picture. The atmosphere is great and it has hit the challenge with aplomb. I cannot find fault with the picture – some may say it's a little dark, some may say it's a little out of focus, but I think you've got it right. (10)

I like very much that you did this in black and white. It fits your title. Very nice. Sharp and well layed out. Lnede

The background is quite dark in this photo, but I think it works with the bright foreground. I would like to see this in color as well for comparrison. The angle is very nice, it shows both the swing and the tree. Great job and good luck in the challenge.

You caught the time-of-day just right. The shadows and the natual light focused on the swing make this an excellent picture.

I like the armosphere in this picture and the composition is nicely balanced.
08/27/2002 10:12:00 AM
very nice. light is a little harsh for me. nice job overall.

I really like the picture, but it's some what dark. I am more dawn to the bright spot on the ground than the swing.

As inspired by the title of this shot (which is exceptional btw), this makes me think of old people and death. In my less than expert opinion, the absence of color leaves a morose taste in my mouth. I may be on the other side of the generation gap here. In absolute terms (forget the topic), this is quite a nice shot.

I really like this picture as b&w, it makes the picture. the shadows play along making the ground to the right not so empty. the fact that its a homemade swing, brings back lots of childhood memories....unfortunately the younger voters may never have enjoyed or experienced this wonderful memory. Nice use of B&W -- very good!

I love the idea, and I especially like the swing from a tree. The angle was interesting. I thought the contrast was a bit overdone.
08/26/2002 07:27:00 PM
I think black and white lends a nice element to this photo.
08/26/2002 05:30:00 PM
I think this is one of the better swing photos of this challenge. (7)

There are a few this week of a swing near a tree, but this is my favorite. The contrast is beautiful, and the composition is great. If it weren't for the swing, the tree would be a little too centered for my test -- but as you've framed it, it's wonderful. I would have given this a 10 if the ropes under the swing had been cut a bit shorter.

composition is interesting but contrast is a bit off.... i'd like to see the shadow details..
08/26/2002 09:26:00 AM
I like the b&w, the light/shadows, and the overall mood. lhall
