While I was facing almost into the sun, I suspect I will get a lot of DNMC because the bird is flying in from the side. The right wing is back lit, with the sun shining through the feathers, so I think this should qualify as contre-jour. We shall see.

In a different challenge, like free study a much higher score. But look at the positive, âYouâ took this picture and you own it, and that is better than any score.

Hi Julianne,
I have to agree with Bob on this - while the lighting on his wings is lovely, I'm afraid it looks like classical side-lighting, not backlighting. I didn't vote in this challenge, but admit I would have stumbled a little on the application of contre-jour to this photo. Great capture, though! Good keeper for your portfolio.

Hmmm... his back looks lit to me. :P

Just kidding. I knew this was stretching the bounds of contre-jour, but it was the best I had at the time.

I don't see a light source unless it is the reflection off the wing of the bird.
