My niece, home from college, she really doesn't look anything like this and doesn't smoke…Just incase her mom sees this LOL.

I set up a strobe with a snoot behind her frizzed out hair and a strobe to the left/front, heavily diffused. Bummed a cigarette from my neighbor and lit it up for extra effect. It ended up being my favorite part of the shot

PP: Some curves, levels the slightest hint of color to add drama, crop, resize for web and that's it.

I don't know how this photography will score, but we had a blast shooting it!!

Making her face dark was a creative choice. I tossed the idea around over and over to go lighter or darker. I guess I should have gone lighter. I knew it wouldn't be in the top 20 but I did think it would do better than it did. Oh well, still learning.

Thanks for the confidence boost rswank!

Nice composition but the exposure is too dark. I hope you'll shoot this again and play with the exposure a bit. I think You'll have an interesting portrait.

Just a tad bit too dark or not contrasted enough. You lose some detail between the cigarette, her hand, and the hair. At first I thought her hair was smoking, too me a minute to realize that it was the cigarrette.
