Challenge: Soft Focus (Classic Editing)
Camera: Olympus C-4000Z
Location: Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada
Date: Nov 28, 2003
Aperture: f-2.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/2 sec.
Galleries: Cityscape, Urban
Date Uploaded: Nov 29, 2003

Taken around 7 am on very rainy November morning.

I have to give a big credit to my wife who originally came up with the idea, but decided to go with a different shot for this challenge.

The mist in this image is partially due to a 55mm Cokin Diffuser #1 filter and partially due to me blowing warm air on the lens.

Colours were brightened slightly in Photoshop.

I do like the idea here. Soft focus does a good job of bleeding bright lights and colors into other areas of a shot, and it was worth using that to your advantage. The colors are somewhat interesting but the shot is still lacking anything that really draws my attention, so my eyes just wander around the clutter mostly indead of feeling like there's something here drawing me in. A worthy effort though. Good luck.

The greens the blues and the burning orange lights make for a nice shot.

Soft focus "makes" this scene - very evocative.

The mark of a great photographer is to take the ordinary and make it look extraordinary. You have accomplished this in this image. Great shot.

The soft focus has a nice effect on the colors/lights. It igives the feeling of early morning nicely. You've tried to tie the composition together - the line of grass lead to the corner, the building frames the left side, same amount of sky at top as pavemnt at the bottom. Very well thought out and balanced, but I still feel the interest is too difuse (no pun intendid) nothing to focus on, although the cars do draw your attention, but they're not what you want to look at. Perhaps with a person, or a couple under the forground light?

I've seen this view before! ; )

Weirdly your shot is extremely noisy on the right but not the left. What happened?

I like the moist sofness in this and it's refreshing to see an urban scene. Good job, with some nice light on the cars and background. I fear that that noisy patch will cost you a lot of votes though, but it's a 6 from me.

Excellent shot. I think I prefer a very similar shot you posted a while back over this one though, but maybe that was a foggier morning, Great photo regardless.

I find it extremely annoying when people post an image in the forums and then enter a very similar one for a challenge. Anonimity?

weird grainish effect on the red lights at the upper-right - but still a beautiful shot, especially thanks to the orange on the left.
