I couldn't think of anything ...
Before anyone starts jumping to conclusions, I think I stayed within the basic editing rules ... I used threshold to get the grainy effect, and light balance for the greyness ... I HAD to get rid of my reflection in the steel balls, because I couldn't find any way to do so with normal means.

Well, I like it but a bit more contrast might have made it more appealing to me.

this has a very washed out feel to it ... I'm not a fan of the processing choice you made here ... great idea for the image though ... that really fits the challenge well ...
