Challenge: Multiple Light Sources II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Location: Shanghai, China
Date: Mar 20, 2007
Aperture: f/25
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/125
Galleries: Portraiture, Studio
Date Uploaded: Mar 19, 2007

I had the idea of light pouring in from many different lights. Due to the complication of creating that in studio, I decided to split the light at the source.

Set-up:
Two meter long sheet of metal with holes.
Placed a strobe with a big cup behind.
Surrounded my model with black reflectors.
cracked a little opening behind him for a second light to come in and create a hair highlight.

Post-prod:
Nothing much really.
A bit of clean-up. Levels. Saturation. Contrast. Re-size. Save.

I originally intended to only have one of the lights coming through the metal sheet, but for fear of disqualification I set-up the second light behind the model - yet leaving the overall effect dark enough to create the atmosphere I was looking for.

Man you're telling me!! I'm starting to think that there's a conspiracy going on!! Not only do I have two scores of EXACTLY 6.4 BUT it's also the two only photos where I used my assistant as a model. Spooky!!

As for the photo, well I still prefer the one with no highlight on the ear. In the end I chickened out from taking a stand and added the ear highlight for fear of a DMNC disqualification.

Don't know if this is multiple light or "only" sunlight. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though. It's a fantastic image and I wish you a great score with it.

I like this one. A little tighter crop on the right would have made it perfect. 9.

I love the left side, but the color highlight on the ear makes it look like a competing photo - I look to left, then ear...never the whole photo. Still, I love the interpretation. 8

Good picture of the face with the dappled light but strange effect with the additional light on the ear, obviously you needed it for the multiple light source, IMO it just looks a little odd.
