Critique Club review:
Hi Ed,
First your shot fits the challenge well. The soft focus on the mouse is quite what I expect in a soft focus shot.
The subject is good. The softness on the snout and eye maintain nice details. The colors of the mouse are also nice. Your cropping, dof, and sharpness are good.
Now the downfalls, IMO the lighting is either too bright, especially on right side of mouse. This is somewhat distracting. Also, the shadow from the snout onto the shirt of the mouse is probably a bit too dark. For some reason, my eye is drawn to the dark area on the shirt, not the eye or head of the mouse (assumed subject). I'm not sure, but a different colored back ground may have changed this or different angle of lighting.
Overall, I liked the photo and hope this helps a bit on your next try.
