My intention is to depict fear in the darkness.

I think that 5-week trial, I sat through as a juror, must have had some influence on this. The defendant in fear of his life shot someone he thought was an intruder. He went out his front door completely naked to investigate the frightening noises, and he didn't turn on the lights. The prosecution made a big deal of why he hadn't gotten dressed and why he hadn't turned on the lights. His answer was "I don't know, I just wasn't thinking about that. I was scared to death."

I see by the votes and comments that quite a few people had strong feelings about this -- on both ends of the scale.

Thanks Team Suck for your thoughtful comments.

I think this was a good idea that just lacked something. The lighting is a little too orange, maybe it could have been more blueish? Also, it's hard to tell what's in the other hand, is it a knife? maybe just a tad more lighting form another source might have helped this.

I thought you set a mood really well here. I gave it a 7.

I thought "I Know You're Out There" was great. The nakedness expresses very well the vulnerability we feel when confronting unknown dangers (symbolized by the darkness). I gave it a 9 and I was very disappointed to see how low it placed.

Okay, I didn't vote in this challenge, but here ya go.
10 for originality. 10 for guts. 10 for creep factor. 6 for focus (you knew that was coming, right?). I find it interesting that the most negative reactions came from middle-aged folks. Hmm...perhaps they're showing themselves more than discussing your body?

Now, that said, I have to admit your breast is distracting. It drags my attention away from the other, more important elements.

Julianne, this is an interesting idea and I think you did a good job of capturing it. The fear on your model's face (this is you, I believe?) is palpable. Any photo that appeals viscerally to emotion is successful in my book and this definitely pulls it off. In fact, the face is so captivating I didn't even notice the breast until I saw Kelly's comment below.

Actually, I think you captured the idea very well. The focus seems a little soft but not too bad. Nice shot.

For those of us who grew up with National Geographic as our only source for nudes, this is no big deal.

Ok, this one got me! I really had to look twice at this one. What a shocker!!! How on EARTH did you convince your model to do this???? You got a GREAT mark from me. Not because of the technical merit of this shot....it's not one of the tops in here but, for ORIGINALITY and GUTS to put this in! LOVE IT!!! 10!!!

PS: I think that a lot of people won't necessarily like it if they don't "get it", but you know what? You've got a style and an imagination and I find it cool!

If somebody was out there I don't think I would go out nude to find out for sure.
