Challenge: Surprise! (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot A40
Location: My home, Oceanside, CA
Date: Nov 23, 2003
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/6 sec.
Galleries: Still Life, Studio
Date Uploaded: Nov 23, 2003

Shot against white foam, with several lights from different angles through a plastic storage tub. Spotlit the "surprise" in the middle with a flashlight to bring it out a bit. Other than that, nothing to special.

Oh, and if you don't know, "Guess What's Inside" is what's printed at the bottom of the surprise. I dediced not to show that, and use it as the title.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This photo expresses the essence of Cracker Jack: caramel popcorn and a surprise from a box. (Peanuts are missing, but there are never enough of those in Cracker Jack anyway!) The composition works well; the surprise is the center of interest as you intended, and the popcorn and box support it well. The lighting is good, casting nice soft shadows; spotlighting the surprise was a good idea. The background is perfect, using a slightly warmer white than the whites on the subject help the latter stand out.

Overall a great photo. But it seems just a bit muted; I think a small contrast boost would help add some impact.

These days it would be a tattoo or a little sticker, they don't pack much of a surprise anymore. This is a good shot overall but the cracker jacks seems a bit over sharp and where are those peanuts? That's the best part! :)

The white background is a good choice but seems a bit blown out on the right hand side. Started with a 6, going to an 8

Okay, so the label says there's a surprise inside... that is supposed to convey the feeling of surprise?!? Technically fine photo, but the idea leaves me stone cold. 3

The shot is well composed. Nice light. I would have expected something other than the obvious prize that comes in the box but it still is a surprise.

Great job-- I had this idea and then forgot to go buy the cracker jacks. However, you did it much better than I would have. This is an excellent shot. Good luck.
