This is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The words are the names of every US death, in chronological order. They cover two long walls that meet at an angle; the ground is a hill going down, so the walls get taller as you walk from the ends toward the place where they meet. I find it very powerful.

One of the interesting design choices was that the walls point at the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Since the walls are polished black marble, you get good reflections of each.

The processing is deliberately harsh to fit the emotions associated with the Vietnam War.

I couldn't decide which I liked best of the three shots I took, so decided to do a triptych. What do you think?

Wow! It LOOKS powerful! I've never seen the Viet Nam Memorial, but even photos of it make me feel emotional. Those were some very turbulant years. I was just a little girl when the Viet Nam war was going on, but my dad went over there twice and all my friends' dads or brothers went. It was something we lived with every day that one of our dads or brothers might not come home.

Great photo, Jeffrey.

These are wonderful. You did really capture the feel in these photos. I'm partial to the far right one. The man in the blue clothing gives an added dimension to the reflection on the wall. The middle one is really awesome, too. Overall, the triptych is a good choice, though.

I think that you did the right thing by posting all three this way. It's too big in both size and meaning to just have one image. Some of my high school pals have their names there. It's good that you have the reflections too.

Excellent job, I really like the reflections you captured. There looks to be a lot of people there, it was crowded the day I was there (the day before Veteran's Day, Nov 10th).
