funky bokeh eh ? PITA to work with at low temps though -focus ring does NOT want to move fast -- maybe 5 of 50 shots are worth saving

first challenge entry at DPC with this lens ;)
this young woman was more than 100meters away
heavily sharpened to bring out more noise tiny bit of curves & saturated a bit
shot in RAW B&W mode but brought back to color for the pated effect

Whoa, only 5.2? I loved this, and gave it a 9 - to my eyes the composition is outstanding and the background, while a little strange, compliments the photo perfectly. The grain looks 'right' with the photo helping to suggest cold and winter, rather than with some where it appeared as though it had just been slapped on to fit the challenge....

Looks almost like the background is fading away. Gives the sense of realism giving way to impressionism and the girl skating in her own little world. Interesting use of grain, I like it!

I love the painting effect to the photograph. Beautiful!

woah. cool effect. your photo has an unmistakable painting quality, which i'm curious how you managed to achieve.

Very interesting. I don't know how you did it but good job.

I think this is an amazing image! I like the placement of the main subject in the bottom right corner and the blue/red colour scheme. The out of focus, people in the background have an impressionist/painterly feel which I find really beautiful. It would be interesting to see this photo without the grain and maybe in b&w, although I think losing the blues and reds would actually detract from the photo. This is one of those images I could look at again and again. There is actually a great impressionist image 'lurking' in the top of this photo. Just thinking, if you cropped just under the skates of the man with the blue jumper around his waist, then cloned out the girls head and the 'half' man on the right......hmmmmm.

Something compositionally discomforts me here; perhaps that she seems to have no space to move into. Whilst the intriguing bokeh and motion in that background is interesting, she - because of the focus - remains the true subject and you've relegated her somewhat. As to the grain ... I'm not sure what it adds to this, why it's relevant.
