As for the photo, it is gritty and harsh and definately captures the awful side of drug use.

I think the above comment is a ridiculously strict (and politically-motivated) interpretation of the challenge. The term "alternative medicine" leaves very wide room for interpretation -- including doing things that harm you. For an addict, or for a person with emotional trauma of some sort, shooting up may very well seem like medicine for what ails him because it gives him the relief he seeks -- albeit at a cost.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

And, for someone like me, the term "alternative medicine" conjurs up visions of snake oil merchants and flaky quacks.

This image is very powerful, the lighting is okay, but the angle this was shot is very interesting.

Fantastic picture on so many levels.

I like this idea, but I would have loved to see a very strong gritty image with a dynamic angle. The Idea has tons of opportunity to really make a statement.

well crafted shot, troubling but that is what you were shooting for,

Great idea and love the b&w. Only downside for me is that the model is overacting.

I really like the concept of this photo! Interesting angle. Definately alot of emotion in this one. Nice contrast and lighting.

A great composition and shot, It is a harsh fact of life. I think that the slight grain and use of B/W enhances your message. well done =9

hmmm not really sure how this ties in with ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE....the picture is nice and a good BW shot though...

intense.

While the subject is incredibly strong here... the pattern of the couch does detract some from this image. nice setup though. Great idea.

Not that I should be using the word "good" here, but good concept and image!
03/07/2007 07:49:29 PM
yikes.

Very dirty, seedy, atmospheric and disturbing. Certainly a powerful image.

really relays a bad message. I dont think its an alternative medicine...
03/07/2007 07:43:08 AM
I have a feeling that this will be DQ soon but its a nice shot 7

very good effort on a touchy subject. The setup is also very good. as is the make up etc... well done 8

The makeup on the face and the shirt really isn't necessary I think. This would be even more powerful without it.
